Thanks, Santiago. Here are my responses:
1 - Somehow, the original Ecco (on the machine that crashed) got corrupted
and, in turn damaged every Ecco *data* file that you tried to open with it
(ie your backup files) That would explain why you cannot open the file in
the spare machine and/or with the re-installed Ecco. The fact that you can
create a new file woull indicate that the problem is file related. Do you
have an Ecco data file that you did *not* try to open with the "original"
Ecco (the one that crashed)? If so, COPY it and try to open the copy in
the spare machine
I have tried several Ecco data files (backups that I did not previously try
to open on my main machine) on the laptop, with the same results,
unfortunately. So it doesn't appear to be the result of a corrupted
installation damaging all of my data files.
2 - The problem may somehow be Win7 related. Do you have access to an XP
machine? You might try there.
I do not have access to an XP machine, so that's not an option for me.
3 - The only other explanation is that the problem is password-based. I am
sorry to ask this, but are you absolutely 100% certain that you are using
the correct password
I am sure the password is right!
- The "Database Recover" suggestion in a previous email seems worth trying
I have now tried the Database recover option. It worked to open the file,
and the calendar entries all appear to be there, which is a HUGE relief!!
The problem is that it seems to have destroyed my phonebook (all of my
custom fields, which is where I put all my critical info, appear to be
gone). Any clue how to get that back?

Subject: Re: [eccopro] Help please! A New Twist on the "Low Memory
Condition" Problem
Hi there:
The only logical explanations to what you are experiencing are that:
1 - Somehow, the original Ecco (on the machine that crashed) got corrupted
and, in turn damaged every Ecco *data* file that you tried to open with it
(ie your backup files) That would explain why you cannot open the file in
the spare machine and/or with the re-installed Ecco. The fact that you can
create a new file woull indicate that the problem is file related. Do you
have an Ecco data file that you did *not* try to open with the "original"
Ecco (the one that crashed)? If so, COPY it and try to open the copy in
the spare machine
2 - The problem may somehow be Win7 related. Do you have access to an XP
machine? You might try there.
3 - The only other explanation is that the problem is password-based. I am
sorry to ask this, but are you absolutely 100% certain that you are using
the correct password? Have you tried NO password (just clicking the OK
button without inputting a password)?
Other thoughts:
- The "Database Recover" suggestion in a previous email seems worth trying
- You may try the "Eccoext" alternative that was mentioned also in a
previous email. Although I also not use it, Eccoext has some features that
may be of help such as the "traveling mode" installation
Slang, are you there? Any tips you can offer?
Best of luck!
Santiago

I have been using Ecco Pro since 1995, and have rarely had any troubles.
Today, suddenly, I am completely unable to use the program, or even to open
my data file. I could really use some help.
My computer is a desktop with a very fast, modern Intel processor and 16GB
of memory and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I installed Ecco Pro about 2 years
ago on this machine using the EccoPro 64 - Installation.msi from Compusol.
I am not using any of the add-on tools ("Ecco extension," etc.); it's just
plain old vanilla EccoPro 64 bit.
I suspect the problem was caused by my having to do a "hard restart" earlier
today (the computer appeared to be stuck and would not go fully into sleep
mode, so I powered it down without doing a proper shutdown). Ever since
then, I cannot fully open the file.
Fol lowing the hard restart, when I tried to reopen EccoPro, the program
opened, and the dialogue box where I enter my file password appeared.
Normally, when I enter the password and click "OK," the file opens right up.
Instead, however, I got the message "Please Note . . . Unable to complete
command, low memory condition detected." I have reviewed many years of posts
to the EccoPro group about this, and I know that many others have had the
same error message, and the problem for them was that they had reached one
of EccoPro's memory limits. In all of those previous posts that I reviewed,
however, this error message appeared when the user tried to add another
appointment, or add something to a folder, not when simply opening their
file. It seems that, for them, deleting some appointments, or deleting some
other items from a folder, would typically solve the problem. My issue did
not arise when trying to add something to a folder, but simply just trying
to open my data file, and it happened right after my hard restart. And,
unlike others who can simply delete some items, I can't even OPEN my data
file to delete anything.
At first, I thought it was no big deal; I figured that the hard restart had
simply corrupted my active EccoPro data file, since Ecco was running and my
data file was open at the time of the hard restart. I am a backup fanatic,
and I have daily network backups going back weeks. But none of the backups
work either! I tried my backup from yesterday; from the day before
yesterday, the day before that; I tried one from three weeks ago; they all
have the same problem, and yet all of them were working fine at the time of
the backups. I then uninstalled and reinstalled Ecco, thinking it was a
corruption with the installation of the program itself, but that didn't
work. I found and deleted my ecco.cfx, ecco.fdb, and ecco.alm f iles from
the C:\Users\[MyName]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Windows folder, but that
didn't do anything either. I ran CheckDisk on my C drive (an SSD, where the
program is installed) and my D drive (a second SSD, where my data files
are), to see if it was a problem with my disks, but no problems were found.
I even did a new installation of EccoPro on a spare Windows 7 laptop, and
tried to use my backup data file from 3 weeks ago, but I got the same error
message. How can that be???????
I have spent the last 2 hours trying virtually everything, reading old posts
from this list, etc., but nothing works. Since I have backups that worked
fine at the time I backed them up, and now none of them work, it seems to me
that the Database - Recover tool is not the solution, right?
Can someone tell me what I am missing? It's probably obvious, but I can't
think of it. My Ecco calendar and phonebook are critical to me and I can't
see either of them.
Thanks for any help,
Jim
