Although I sent the following message twice on April 1st to the
[email protected] list, it never appeared. I'm not sure whether
the reason for that is technical or philosophic, but I suspect that the
persons controlling the list (who are not those that created it), may
feel uncomfortable knowing that Micro$oft Windows (and proprietary
software in general) has no commitment to maintaininmg the functionality
of older applications like EccoPro - but Linus Thorwald and Bill
Stallings DO. This why the current problems adapting Ecco to the latest
Windoze are unnecessary and also explains why they never-the-less occur).
What isn't so clear is why my messages are no longer posted to the
[email protected] list.
In fact, I am no longer receiving post from the list.

OS X's core is a POSIX compliant operating system (OS) built on top of
the XNU kernel, with standard Unix facilities available from the command
line interface. Apple has released this family of software as a free and
open source operating system named Darwin. On top of Darwin, Apple
layered a number of components, including the Aqua interface and the
Finder, to complete the GUI-based operating system which is OS X.
Since OS X is POSIX compliant, many software packages written for the
*BSDs, Linux, or other Unix-like systems can be recompiled to run on it.
I run ecco on Debian, Fedora, openSUSE and Gentoo based systems without
problems under Wine. (Slackware systems may require Crossover).
The main difference between Apple's OSX and Linux is you have pay for
it. Unlike Windows, the developers of the Linux kernel take pains to
assure compatibility with older M$ Windows applications like EccoPro,
while new Windows only have the same name and the same owner, for folks
that have an appetite for punishment.
