Linux is a kernel used by Linux distributions, which are complete
computer Operating Systems. Although hundreds exist there are only a
few major distros upon which almost all the rest are based:
Debian (which Ubuntu is based on), Fedora / RedHat, openSUSE, Slackware,
Arch and Gentoo. I have installed and used all of them and all of them
support Wine (although I have found it somewhat more difficult in
Slackware - but it can be done). However, I no longer use Ubuntu or
Ubuntu derivatives and some differences exist between Ubuntu and Debian.
Ubuntu and Debian are the base for over half of the distros listed by
distrowatch.com. Another major distribution is Mandrake/Manriva/Mageia
which I have run as a live system but not installed, so I know little
about it.
Also, I haven't used Ecco with cel phones or tablets so I can't be of
much help in that respect. (My cel phone is a Nokia Asha 210 which is no
longer sold here I believe, and I use it for text messages and when I am
not at home).
What I can certainly do is orient people regarding where they can find
the information they need to install and use Ecco on GNU/Linux
distributions. It's not hard, anyway - and Crossover is very rarely
needed, any more.
As I mentioned: The commitment is there to support older Windoze
applications as an altruistic service. This isn't Micr$oft and Linus
Thorvald isn't Bill Gates (who may be the devil in disguise). :-
