Unfortunately, Yahoo Groups seems to have some kind of glitch recently and when I click on messages I can't see the body. It seems to be happening mostly on some particular members' messages, but right now there are several members I've observed the problem with. All I can see is the first sentence or so of some posts, so please forgive me if my response is duplication or missing something.

I think that the method of archiving the file and then making a cleaned up version is probably the best approach.

A few notes:

There are other memory limits in files besides just the overall ~65k item limit. You can be under 65k items and still have a memory problem if you hit one of those other limits. A common one is to exceed the max number of items per folder (which can vary depending on the type of folder) or the max number of items that can be displayed at a time in a notepad. So even if you are below the 65k items, you can still have a problem.

There is no perfect way to avoid all memory issues, but if you use Slang's Ecco Pro Extension, it has a number of features that protect against problems of that type and also some that break the memory ceilings on things such as max items per folder. It should reduce your instances of memory crashes.
