I think that you can't "lose" the alarms. If you delete the "alarm" file 
(ecco.alm), when you open the file back up, Ecco will ask you if you 
want to have alarms active on the computer. Click yes and all your 
alarms will be reactivated. (and ecco.alm will be back)

The trick is to find all the instances of ecco.alm in your system and 
delete (or simply rename) the right one. I'd do it with all, just to be 
on the safe side.
