What do you mean by the last request and what puzzles you?

When you move the master (file.ecb and file.ecb) you need to set in each copy where to find the master.

As seen on the screen shot, your 2ndcopy.eco is online (is connected to the .ECG file).

Review Connection dialogue is a little bit misleading, it shows currently inactive (offline) connections – is seems that your original file.eco is currently closed. “Unknown user” – my guess is that the same utility is used in workgroup setting, where each user must enter a name and a password – so in ordinary setting all users are Unknown. From Review Connection dialogue you can disconnect any unused copy (but you cannot re-connect it back).

Maybe it is advisable to enter something in the Description field when creating a new synchronized copy to help distinguishing between connections seen in the Review Connection dialogue.

To play with synchronized copies feel free to create several copies – you may disconnect them later. And you may open several synchronized copies on the same computer to see how the changes are synchronized.

Probably the load on the system is not so significant, in any case it’s a drop in the ocean if compared with video streaming.

It’s not very complicated:

1 With your original file (file.eco) being opened go to File|Create Synchronized Copy... (rename home.eco to something more informative, e.g. file_copy.eco) by default the copy will be created in the same folder where the original file is located

2 In addition to the copy (file_copy.eco) two additional files will be created file.ECB and file.ECG

3 Close your file (file.eco)

4 Move file.ECB and file.ECG to your network drive (USB key)

5 Open the original file.eco, go to File|Properties and enter there the path to the file.ECG

6 Move the copy (file_copy.eco) to another computer and repeat step 5 with it too.


Do experiment with a dummy file first, and keep backups.

I am looking for the most efficient way for accessing an ecco file from two computers on a wifi network.


A USB key on my router contains the file. However I cannot access it on a computer if it is open on the other one. I suppose one approach is to never leave a computer while the file is open.


Ecco has a complex way of synchronizing files. I had used it many years ago, but if I remember correctly it slowed down the system because it constantly updated files. It is also not simple to set it up.


I have also used Dropbox, but then the back-ups would only be functional on one of the computers, or in another Dropbox folder.


Can you please indicate if there is a simpler way?
