Wow, it
is nearly
November,
Halloween. Where
is the October
Newsletter?
Let's do
something
different, let
us try to get
some smiles in a
world full of
turmoil,
conflict and
negative news.
After 43
Years I had the
chance this week
to reunite with
John Cleese and
Eric Idle of
Monty Python
Flying Circus.
The pair is
spending all of
October taking
the partly
interactive show
John Cleese and
Eric Idle:
"Together
Again at Last
... For the
Very First
Time"
throughout the
South, see http://www.cleeseandidle.com /. If they are
close to
you, don't miss
it. They just
added another
show in Chicago.
I met
with them this
Tuesday in
Savannah. John
and Eric
explained the so
called lost
German episodes
and the Munich
productions
where I was part
of the crew in
1971 and 1972
(see http://creat
iveservices.us/montypython.html ). At the
end of that
section they had
the guts to call
me out during
the show so I
had to stand up
among 2500
Python fans with
all eyes on me.
Very
interesting was
also the history
they shared
about their
early
collaboration
with Marty
Feldman, another
favorite of
mine. Here is
the young John
Cleese in a
sketch with
Marty Feldman https://youtu.be/PcntOrHTeBA and here is Ma
rty with
Dean Martin
mirroring the
spirit of the
late 60s https://youtu.be/w15pEJS7Pf4 ... eat more c

Receiving
an "Unhandled
Registry
Error"
after
upgrading from
Windows 7 to
Windows 10.
Several
users who upgraded
to Windows 10 and
didn't do a fresh
EccoPro
installation
received an
"Unhandled
Registry Error
(CFO)":
The
"Unhandled
Registry Error
(CFO)" is a
Registry
permission
problem. It has to
do with Windows
updates or
upgrades which
changes Registry
permissions.
If you
attempt a
reinstallation of
EccoPro the
regular Windows
uninstaller
doesn't do a
thorough enough
job to eliminate
old registry
entries and
therefore you will
receive Registry
Errors.
As with
other programs, a
regular Windows
uninstallation did
not remove
"Registry"
remnants of a
prior
installation.
Uninstall EccoPro
from the control
panel and run
"regedit" from the
command prompt.
Make sure
everything under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
->Software
-> NETMANAGE
-> Ecco is
removed before you
attempt a new
EccoPro
installation.
Make sure
your operating
system is 64-bit.
Close every open
program including
the Virus Scanner
and try to use the
64-bit Installer
EccoProX version
4.6.7.7 (Run the
"EccoProX64 -
Installation.msi"
as Administrator
in C:\EccoPro64)
and see if you get
EccoPro running
and the Unhandled
Registry error
disappears.
Receiving
an "Unable to
complete
Command in
Windows 10"
The error
is specific to
your system. Did
you try to open
the "Default.eco"
in your Ecco
Program Folder? If
you can open other
EccoPro data files
or the templates
in the template
folder the error
is specific to
your data file in
use. Please see
the "Low Memory
Condition" entry
in our
Knowledgebase.
If you
still get the
error, the error
might have to do
with some
permissions on
your system. Do
you remember the
day the program
was working? Did
you received any
virus protection
updates? Did you
receive any
automatic Windows
Updates and/or
Security Updates
which modified
security settings
and could be the
cause of your
problem?
Did you
tried a "System
Restore" (Start
-> All Programs
-> Accessories
-> System Tools
-> System
Restore) by
setting your
system back to an
earlier date when
Ecco was working?
Did you uninstall
any prior version
properly?
The EccoPro
Installation to
64-bit Windows 7
or 8/8.1 or 10
requires the
following
configuration
files to be
present: In
Windows Explorer
go to "Organize"
and click on
"Folder and search
options" ->
"View" and check
"Show hidden
files, folders, or
drives", uncheck
"Hide extensions
for known file
types" and "Hide
protected
operating system
files". Click OK.
Open the "Local
Disk (C:)" and
look for the
following files
ecco.cfx, ecco.alm
and ecco.fdb in
C:\users\[username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Windows
for your toolbar
and alarm
settings. The
ecco.cfx file
might have been
renamed to
"ecco.cfx.bak".
Please rename the
file back to
"ecco.cfx".
If the
error is
permission related
you might have to
reinstall
EccoProX. Here are
my recommendations
for Windows 10: If
you attempt a
reinstallation of
EccoPro the
regular Windows
uninstaller
doesn't do a
thorough enough
job to eliminate
old registry
entries and
therefore you will
receive Registry
Errors (see
above!).
