In case this helps someone: After about a year or more of not
using Ecco in Linux, I found that my existing Ecco installation
would no longer run. It would immediately crash with an
"application error" message every time I tried to start it. I
was using Crossover and updating regularly, so I don't know at
what point it stopped working with the latest updates. Before
that, I had been having to start the program twice, as it would
always crash the first time, but it (ecco32 and eccoext.exe)
would always run fine thereafter.

At any rate after struggling for hours this weekend on multiple
computers I gave up running Ecco in Crossover when I discovered
that it would run fine under Wine version 1.62 (wine is now at
1.92 or something similar). The way I discovered this was to
use PLAYONLINUX which used the version of wine installed on my
Linuxlite system, which for some reason was stuck back at 1.62.
Playonlinux allows you to choose your version of wine to use, so
it looks like this is going to be my platform of choice in the
future, and I am going to forget my investment in Crossover
(which is paid).

I feel sure that there's nothing magic about 1.62 and that some
of the later versions of wine will work too, but I doubt I will
take the time to install each increment to find out where the
regression took place. About all I can say is the current
version of wine appears to have a bug which keeps Ecco from
running.

At any rate my two cents is that if you are wanting to run Ecco
in linux, try PlayOnLinux and select wine version 1.62. That
version of wine is working fine for me.

Let me try to tell you what I find
when I try to verify paths.

In the end, I could only find the
ecco folder by opening crossover, choosing
Bottles, then Open C Drive.

The path (found only as above) to
the Ecco folder is drive_c/program
files/eccopro. If I search for this folder
or any file within it using Finder,
it is not discoverable. I suppose that makes
sense - to someone.

Nonetheless, that folder (eccopro)
now contains the necessary executable. I put
a copy of that file (eccoext.exe) on my
desktop and when I execute it today, it
flips me to the "Select an Application to
Install" process. So no go.

I have also tried creating a Run
Command for ecco32, browsing for and
choosing the new executable in the
EccoFolder. That does nothing. I see today
that when I browse and choose within the
drive_c, the path it provides is as follows:
"/Users/jingerhayes/Library/Application
Support/CrossOver/Bottles/Ecco
Pro/drive_c/Program
Files/EccoPro/eccoext.exe"

I cannot follow/recreate that path
by clicking through manually (users,
jingerfhayes, library, etc). When I get as
far as application support, there is no
CrossOver folder within it. I suppose those
files are hidden?

My CrossOver folder is simply
within users/jingerfhayes/Applications. That
Crossover Folder does not then contain
Bottles/EccoPro/drive_c. It really only
contains the original ecco icon and the
crossover icon (the .app files).

This is not my area of expertise
obviously. I simply downloaded the zip file,
extracted the four files and literally
dragged them into the ecco pro folder (which
I had opened as I told you, by opening
crossover, bottles, etc). From then I tried
executing with the new ext.exe and here we
are. Did I miss a step? Should I uninstall
and start over?
