Here's a matter of some urgency to me:
I recently discovered the Merge Column Values function in Ecco Extension. When you open that dialog, the message is: copy (not merge) column values from X (folder/column) to Y (folder/column).
Perhaps because of this message wording, I assumed using that command would create independent copies of the values in the X column in the Y column, which I could then permanently alter at will. In my principal Ecco applications, being able to do this would be a great boon.
After some experience, however, it looks as if the values in the Y column maintain a link to those in the X column, and switch back to those X-column values after a time -- though not right away, which adds a spooky element to an inconvenient feature.
Appreciate advice as to whether I'm correctly understanding how this works, and if so:
1) Of what use a permanently linked set of column values is (why not just use the same column in both places?), and
2) Whether there is a way to do what I want, i.e., copy values between columns so that the Y values do not maintain a link to the X values, and remain the same until I change them.
Many thanks in advance,
Frank Nettleton
