As noted in the original question, McAfee is preventing him from reinstalling, it isn't that he lost a file, its that the file is being blocked by the virus checker. It sees the eccoext.exe file as a virus. We all know the need for back-up, it just isn't relevant to the question being asked. Something I tried to make clear in my answer. For e.g., when ZA blocked eccoext.exe on my system I had numerous backups but every time I copied it back ZA instantly blocked the file.
Sorry to hear about the terrible troubles you had, we all have great sympathy for such problems and I see you didn't intend to be snarky, we just understand the problem differently. Backups are preached constantly, I just don't think it's relevant to this problem.
