By any chance do you have your graphics card set to multiple displays
with your desktop "extended" to another display? If so, at some point
you may have moved ecco to the other display so it won't show in the
main display, and if the second display is not on it will seem to have
disappeared.
How about the four questions posed by Johnsmith below?
Please do report back. It is very frustrating to offer advice and not
know whether it worked or not.
