Outline label column not wide enough to display item numbers

I'm posting 3 messages separately so each subject line concerns only one item that will come up in a search if someone else has this issue. 

 

 In short, the outline label column at the left side of any Notepad screen does not automatically expand to fit the width of the numbers if the font size is increased and therefore will not display the number. Is there any way to get it to widen? 

 

 My eyesight being what it is I need a larger font size but when I went to do this I noticed that the item numbering would not display above "9". After experimenting with using letters or Roman numerals and finding that they would not display if more than a certain number of characters wide I realized that the larger font size affected the item numbering which increased the width of the numbers and if the width is larger than the label column width the number will not display at all.  So for example Roman numeral XL would display but not XLVIII. If I reduce the font size enough then "10" or "100" will display. 

 

 This only seems to be a problem with a top level item. On sub items the label width does expand to fit increased number width and the number displays no problem.
