I certainly agree with points 1 and 2.
Point 3 does, in a sense, conflict with point 1. Personally, I favour just an email list, but I recognise there are some (many?) who would favour a web-based forum. I can't really see any way in which an email list and a web forum could be integrated, but perhaps others know more than I do. I'm associated with another environment where there is both an email list and a web forum -- some people do participate in both, but I suspect that most people use one but not the other. Which is a pity, because they miss out on potentially useful stuff that is only in the other place.
