Bug in md5sum?

I just tried to verify a md5 sum:

   md5sum -c somefile.md5

It failed. After making to small changes to somefile.md5 it verified. 
The changes was:

   1) downcase the md5 sum
   2) put a * before the file name

Then I tried the Cygwin port of md5sum. This verified with the original 
somefile.md5.

Is this a bug in the GnuWin32 port of md5sum, or?
