As always, some additional thoughts :)

Decoders exist at different quality levels and since FFdshow put libmad in the list
as the first option, it might be that it's simply a better mp3 decoder.

And about naming. What to think of libLAMEmp3? Also well known.

Also the audio hardware can spoil the listening pleasure very much.
I have an old AMD Athlon running on a Asus board with integrated audio which
sounds aweful. My other machine is a Phenom on a Gigabyte board with great
sounding integrated audio.
