Just curious, is this really a "for a limited time only" issue, or did some hacker out there crack the new system so badly that they (MS) decided to pull it off the market completely?

I may have to snoop around some of the hacker boards and see if there is any news about this. If it really was a "crack" against the new system, it would have to be pretty severe for MS to not just crank out a patch for the security hole.

I'm mostly just kicking myself - it's an irritant due to (possibly mis-) prioritization of resources on my part.
It's hard for me to complain too much - I knew it was a "limited" offer. OTOH, knowing the limit ahead of time would have been nice (and yes, I'm sure there's marketing geniuses that would love to explain why announcing a deadline is a bad idea...). Hell, if they'd told you when the deadline was, then you might have spread it around, etc., etc.
