Ubuntu and .NET

I am doing research on porting a C# server application (No UI, all managed dlls, some Windows Services) over to a box this is running Ubuntu. Google is turning up links to Mono, which I have never used, nor have I ever used Linux.

Does anyone know if .NET and Ubuntu can play nicely together? 

The next option is to migrate all of the C# source code to Java. Not a Jave guy here so this would have to be outsourced.
