Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but it sounds to me like you need to
connect the WAN port of the Linksys to a LAN port on the Verizon
router.  The Verizon router would have no concept of what 192.168.2.x
is, that's a network which exists only for the Linksys router and
things connected to it.

Also, if I understand how this setup would work, all traffic will
still be routed through the Verizon router, it just won't do any
additional filtering or blocking.

If you're able to put the hub *before* the Verizon "router/modem" then
it seems to me that the Verizon "router/modem" is not, in fact, a
"router/mode".  But I don't know how Verizon's network is set up.
