The DNS error would indicate that the server name is not being correctly resolved to an IP address.

A little more info:

- I can ping the IIS7 box by IP address and machine name from the laptop

- On the laptop in IE, where I am trying to browse to the test.html page, under LAN settings I unchecked "Use a proxy server...."... same result

- I left it checked and checked "Bypass proxy server..."....same result
