Can Parallels Desktop for Mac run Windows from my Bootcamp drive?

I'm considering to buy Parallels Desktop for Mac to run Windows XP
(and later Windows 7). I have already installed Windows on a separate
drive and am running it thru Bootcamp.
Has anybody used Parallels? Is it faster than VMWare Fusion?
