Only Sharepoint Server costs money. I have the MSDN subscription. The install instructions say you need a minimum of 8GB memory to run Sharepoint 2010. Maybe I should take that as a warning. Sharepoint hosting might be more cost effective: http://asphostcentral.wordpress.com/2009/11/02/sharepoint-2010-hosting-main-benefits-overview-of-sharepoint-2010/ My thinking is that a small, local business might prefer an app written in Access instead of a programming language. But then, to make Access scale to a multiuser system with web based access, do you need sharepoint and lots of upfront cash?
