I don't particularly like iTunes, but so far I like some of the alternatives
even less.
The Zune software's handling of podcasts seemed immature to me and it didn't
really seem to do what I wanted. All I really want it all to do is: download
podcast episodes, keep them around until I watch/listen to them on my
device, then delete them. This seemed beyond the capabilities of Zune
combined with Windows Phone 7 when I tried it.
Android doesn't have any native podcast handling, as far as I can tell. Now
that I've given up on WP7, I have an Android device and I use DoubleTwist to
synchronise my music and podcasts. And again my really simple requirements
for podcast handling seem beyond its capabilities.
There are quite a few other options for podcasts on Android though, I just
haven't tried them. Since I'm a bit behind on my TED Talk episodes, I'll
probably have to re-download around 2GB of video if I switch podcast client
now, so I won't switch lightly. I'd love to hear some recommendations for
good Android podcast client software if any of you have any good ones.
So, my recommendation is to go with ipod+itunes - it's not great, but it
usually works OK.
