Hi John,

> Cool. Thanks again for the run down.

Anytime!

> In my own systems I'm going to try to put together some release scripts
that automatically manage the files that version numbers are in. That's
why I'm in the process of giving all this some thought. I used to have a
system for managing this kind of stuff but it wasn't very good and is
completely incompatible with the way I work and the way I lay out my
projects in my svn repositories now (I didn't used to use the
trunk/branches/tags standard and invented my own method which sucked in
comparison).

The system we use now isn't particularly original, but it seems to work OK. I did have the benefit of hindsight to call upon when coming up with it, which helps!

> And thanks for the chat. If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have had anyone
to talk to! It saddens me that this list is so dead these days. It used
to be like being in a pub with everyone talking all at once. Now it's
like being in a library with the odd rebel whispering snippets of wisdom
in hushed tones. I would have thought there would have been more people
chiming in on this thread because it seems to me like this sort of issue
is one that nearly everyone would have to deal with one way or another.
Perhaps it's just a complex subject and people don't have the time that
would be required to offer a useful comment.

No worries. To be honest I think email lists in general are a dying breed - the only one I know of that's thriving is accu-general (http://accu.org/index.php/mailinglists/).

The CodeProject Lounge is the other obvious hang out place - and that seems to be as busy as ever.
