It used to really bother me that when I searched google for something
the HTTP referrer header included the query text I had submitted. I felt
as though google was disclosing to a third party something that should
have been kept between me and google.

Then I kind of got over it.

Then I started running my own websites and loved to be able to see what
searches for what keywords where bringing traffic to my sites.

But now google has gone all Web 2.0 and AJAXy and so the URL you see in
the referrer header doesn't include the keywords searched any more.

And for some reason that seems evil, even though initially that is what
I wanted, now that that it works that way it seems like google has just
decided to keep search keywords to themselves and not share them with
the internet at large anymore.

So I've backflipped, and so has google.

There's something about google that is just so disappointing. It's like
they're corporate now rather than smart. A glorified advertising company
that reports to the CIA/NSA and that's all.

The internet used to be cool.
