I don't want a solution where I have to send all my data off to some
third party. Not sure how Clicky works on that front.

I might be interested in some type of real time reporting solution one
day, but the reality is that my websites get so little traffic that I
have a real time monitoring solution that works well enough for me.

What I do is set up certificate-based SSH logins from a computer with a
monitor sitting on the back of my desk. Then I use SSH to download all
of my web logs in real time, and then I use tail -f to watch the
downloads. So every time anyone visits any of my websites I can see it
turn up on a screen on the back of my desk. This approach won't scale if
any of my sites become incredibly popular, but in the mean time it works
quite well. I can monitor all of the traffic to all of my sites in real
time.

On a just barely related note I'm watching F2C2012: Eben Moglen keynote
- "Innovation under Austerity" [1] and he makes comment about web logs
saying "But the reality of the story underneath is: if we had a little
bit more disintermediated innovation, if we had made running your own
webserver very easy, if we had explained to people from the very
beginning how important the logs are and why you shouldn't let other
people keep them for you, we would be in a rather different state right
now."
