What's the VS2012 backlash?  We're using 2010.

I hope that Win8 sees adoption on tablets and drives a Windows-based tablet ecosystem. However, I suspect it will be considered a “Wait until 9” on the desktop. I understand there are improvements for the desktop user, but from my perspective Microsoft has studiously ignored pitching to heavy desktop users. Virtually every demo I’ve seen (and every complaint I’ve heard from the field) has been “Metro Metro Touch Metro Touch”

I would like to see a Windows 8 demo focused on the desktop developer – explain to me why I should get excited about an OS designed around running one or two apps full-screen (which is my takeaway from Metro demos)

Microsoft should also be worried that people who buy Windows 8 desktop machines are going to be utterly confused because it “doesn’t come with Windows.”

And the VS2012 backlash should be a very strong indicator of how big Microsoft is missing on understanding its user base these days.

I wonder if there's any good insight on how fast people will move to Windows 8 from Windows 7.  In my sector, cutting edge computers are key, and the latest OS is key if and only if it does stuff better than the previous.  I remember many companies skipped or activately avoided Vista because it was slow and buggy, but they jumped on Windows 7 relatively quickly.  Only laggards are still using XP or Vista and we don't care much because they also are laggard on updating our software.

What's the expectation for Win8?
