Nice FAQ link.
It's seeming clear to me that I don't want to be locked into Win8, though I do want to develop with the updated look.  Windows desktop 8 will run Win7 apps of course, but the tablets might not.  So if I want to be tablet-ready I need the new WinRT, but if I want to work on Windows 7 machines, I need WPF or WinForms.  I don't see a way to do both except to keep the UI layer as thin as possible and write two versions.

I suspect windows 8 will be an Enterprise dud (although I do fancy the
Intel Surface) in part because as a developer why would I tie my code
to such a small user base, for windows desktop stuff I'm sticking with
WPF that runs on everything from XP upwards.
