Re: Windows 8: how quickly will it be adopted?

I think it's almost certain they won't.  MS doesn't have the design skills nor the single focus that Apple has.  Basically MS has never produced great easy software so why do you suppose it will start now?

But will the very young and the very old like Metro just as much?  That is the open question.  


My colleagues and I were using touch on 14 inch-ish Windows NT 10 laptops a decade ago and loving that!  So I do not think that most developers are even going to care whether something is optimized for touch or not.  They are thrilled when something is touch enabled, period, and they'll just touch more carefully if need be.  In fact, they'll probably be annoyed at the wasted space in touch optimized apps.  If the screen is small enough to make that important, then you aren't working anyway, and your play life probably is not so great either.

So I am definitely not the person to ask what consumers will like.  

In all seriousness, here is why enterprises might not update to Win8.  It is too much fun.  All your Metro apps are just a Win+Tab away.  I'm supposed to be at the beach right now...
