but just because you look for additional or other functionality on the web doesn't mean "everything has to be on the web". If you use a web based source repository you're not going to look for a web-based development environment...

And as I said - just because your mail is in exchange doesn't mean you have to use OWA instead of desktop outlook.

Fair enough, but the web is one heck of a hammer, so the app needs to be really specialized and compelling.

I still think of desktop apps for serious work, and the web for almost everything else.  But even when you are using an app, you'll soon enough find yourself looking something up on the web.  Or you'll be on another machine somewhere, and glad that Google is syncing your links and folders.
