Soft v. Type Keyboard with Surface RT

Love my Surface RT but felt that the soft keyboard was slowing me down. So
I bought the Type keyboard, just got it today, and it is perhaps worse! Do
you think I just got a defective one? What happens is, when I'm typing
very fast, it occasionally just stops typing. This happens in any
application.
On the other hand, the Type keyboard may actually be better when typing
more slowly, so perhaps it is worthwhile.
Anybody else having similar experiences? Is it easy to return these
keyboards?
