All I can think of is incompatibility with some new app or activation of a PPro script which goes into a loop. 

 Do you happen to use active buttons? I do get similar behavior with PPro if another app goes into a loop or has high CPU usage.  I've made the situation better in latest releases, but have not found a general fix.  MS Word is big offender on my configuration.
