Thanks R.E.  That works.  But I wonder why the more direct approach doesn't work.
 

 Bruce, it doesn't surprise me that I asked before (or that I have forgotten about it).  Last fall my Win7 workstation died (fixed a week later with a new power supply).  Before I could get a new part, I bought a cheapo HP laptop with Win10.  That died too so I can't see if I worked around that problem at that time.
