hehe, very true. switch to the latest release, and you'll be waiting for your
system to be usable again for hours... days... or it takes you a week, as
compilation fails at one point or the other (while you're away for some hours,
of course, so you'll come back and see that it has failed shortly after you had
left... d'oh!).

yeah, but i think i learned most things because something didn't work. often
took hours until everything was fixed and running again.
personally, i f*cked up my gentoo when trying to switch between graphics
drivers. there were some other glitches, too, but this triggered the final shot
that killed everything. i gave up at that point and decided to switch to ubuntu,
which is working fine. the good thing about the gentoo experience is that the
acquired knowledge helps to keep the new system running smoothly. :)
