You don't actually need litestep to be compiled as 64 bit (and all the
associated evil) for that. The redirection can be turned on and off
from within 32-bit processes.

That way you only need to update the core and any modules that directly
execute other processes.
I'm realize this is likely useless to you personally, but it's the best
I can do today. :)
