xPopup from xLabel

I've set an xLabel to trigger !popup on mouse-down. My problem is that
the popup doesn't react to the mouse until after mouse-up. I'd like to
use a single mouse-stroke (well, pen-stroke, actually): mouse-down,
move to menu choice, mouse-up. I can do it with jDesk, so I think it's
to do with how xLabel works. Any way around this?
