I stopped using PS years ago and switched to GIMP. I still have my PS 7
install disc, but I just don't like how HUGE it is. While I admit that
PS handles/implements layers better, that is the only thing I like over
GIMP.

I don't know crap about vectors and illustrations, but I have heard that
Inkscape is the GIMP of vector work. Opensource too.

However, if you are a professional, you most likely need those two Adobe
pieces of software.
