What it is, has already been explained, but may I suggest this:

Do not use "threaded" unless you must.

I would be interested in hearing what actual (definable) benefits anyone 
has from running modules as "threaded" as currently exists in Litestep. 
  I'm not talking theoretical benefits of threading.
