You got the threading thing the wrong way. If you load jkey threaded, you can use litestep while *jkey* freezes (which never happens). Every event (bang/keys etc) goes through litestep first, but when any not-threaded modules freezes, litestep in turn freezes too and wont react on the event untill the frozen module is done. But xSpeak is a good example.
