I don't know about Litestep modules in particular but the most common
regular expression syntax you see is Perl's or similar to Perl's.

there are some examples in there.
I didn't try but I imagine that googling for a perl regex tutorial would
get you a bunch of hits.
Regular expressions are initially incomprehensible but once you get the
hang of them you can parse them rather quickly in your head and you then
enter a whole new world of wonderfulness. I would agree with Brian's
statement: regular expressions are your friend. :-)
