You can implement your own protocol similar to res, ftp etc by
registering your protocol under



HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Handler



then proceed with implementing

Implementing your own protocol gives you a great deal of flexibility but
I think the res: protocol should go a long way for what you are trying
to do, - no need to reinvent the wheel twice, right?
