Right - you'd just get a few extra bytes of junk at the end of the file, 
that's all.

Ah, the eternal question. But which particular samples did you have in mind? 
Maybe we can get them updated. Of course, what is needed is an API function 
to calculate the correct offset for any given BITMAPINFOHEADER structure. 
Sadly no such thing appears to exist, so each programmer has to pore over 
the documentation to figure out what the offset should be for every possible 
combination of biBitCount/biCompression/biClrUsed :-(
