Xaw: Label widget class

There's a feature to draw a pixmap on the left of a label, but why is this done using XCopyPlane(..., 1L) and not XCopyArea() instead? I'd very like to have color pixmaps in labels and buttons, which I suppose is only possible with XCopyArea() call.
