I am not in the context of the CVS. However, this
looks really weird.

A kernel define should be done in the kernel.

However, you now have a hold of what the problem
actually is, so it is my suggestion to not go to LKML
and actually tell them what to do but to tell them
what the problem is and let them decide what to do.
