Problem with CRT display with GeForce4

Hi,

I'm having a problem turning on the CRT display using a Dell Latitude 840,
Geforce 4 (NV17 [GeForce4 440 Go] (rev a3)), Debian/sid kernel 2.4.19,
latest nvidia drivers, xfree86-4.2.1-3

It works fine when in text mode (e.g. on bootup), but stops working (black
screen, not even glowing) when starting an x-server. I've tried different
resolutions, some of which I know have worked on the CRT-monitor before.
Also, when I switch back to text mode (by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1), the CRT
works fine but the laptop's LCD seems to have lost the sync or something,
it flickers. When pressing the CRT/LCD-button (Fn+F8) (cycling through),
it recovers.

I've tried modifying the XF86Config-4 file by adding an additional screen
section, without luck (the screen seems to get registered (ie. appears
in /var/log/XFree86.0.log), but it has no effect).

Any help would be appreciated
