First, I am new to this list.
If my question goes to the wrong list, pls direct me to the right
one.
Second, I am new to building (any) XFree from source (besides
compiling
FreeBSD's ports) - so forgive, if it's simply an "RTFM"
(and point me to the right manual/document)
Third: my question(s):
I am working on a project, which requires some GUI on an embedded
system.
OS ist NetBSD.
My requirements are fairly simple - I would not even require a
window-manager. Just some "Forms" (much like Palm's GUI) would
do.
The main concern is memory footprint!
HW is (currently) an Advantech SBC, i486, standard VGA controller
+ TFT (320*240)
Future version shall run on an ARM based SBC.
After searching different locations, I found about several
possibilites (picoGUI,
Microwindows , ...) and TinyX / KDrive
Trying to build it, I already fail, creating the right config
files ...
- is it enough, just to create "host.def" ?
#define KDriveXServer YES
#define TinyXServer YES
... here, I think, I should add something for the VGA-driver ?
- the final target system will be a arm-based SBC (Advantech)
Currently working on i386. I assume, I can cross-build on the
i386-system
(as described in handhelds.org) ?
- is there kind of "idiot's guide to tinyx" ?
(yes, I did read the
http://www.handhelds.org/minihowto/building-x.html
but possibly, my problems already started above )
- where can I find some figures about expected size of the
resulting x-server
and required components
(up to now, I was quite happy with 32MB RAM and a CF-card of 32
MB in the
non-GUI version, leaving almost 15 MB free)
- can you recommend a minimal window manager?
- possibly strange to ask here, but: any recommendation for
another (quite
low-end functionality) library to implement a GUI
