evdev input update (Help needed)

The short of it is that I am again working on it, I have the code for
finding the device done, and have a 2.5.x kernel which actually works
for me.

The catching point, the point that I need help on, is from an input
device, I need to have X tell me about activity on not one, but two file
descriptors.

And I can't figure out how to pull that off for the non-SIGIO case, the
SIGIO case seems easy enough, however the non-SIGIO case is another
matter entirely, and without registering a whole new input device, I'm
not sure how to get this working.
