hardware pb may be graphic card

i'm installing linux mandrake 9.0 on a HP omnibook 500
a kde session should be launched (run level 5)
no problem appears if i boot to a console mode (run level 3)

at boot time following  messages are displayed :

Loading Linux........
BIOS data check successful
You passed an undefined mode number.
Press <RETURN> to see video modes available, <SPACE> to continue or wait

then

Video adapter : VESA VGA
and modes are displayed
0   80*25 
1   80*50
... 
if i type scan the screen get black and looks looping
typing <ENTER> or 0.. gives:

uncompressing linux...

unknown bridge resource 2 assuming transparent
 PCI: device 00:1f.1  not available because of resource collision

INIT: boot
...

and boot continue normaly
 but the graphic session doesn't start and switch to tty1 for a login prompt

when ctrl-alt F7 we have a blanck screen & just the sursor

only one error is located by the end of the log file Xfree86.0.log 
and it's
(EE) screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration 

fatal server error: no screens found

any help idea is welcome
