I turned off HAL by setting 

    #define UseMatroxHal            NO
    #define BuildMatroxHal          NO

in xf86site.def.

Sync-On-Green now works.  What's HAL and what does it have against the
SyncOnGreen mga option?

OpenGL stuff still won't work.  So, I guess I need to find the source
for libxgl and hope current versions work with the G200.

What's the difference between DRM (available at
http://www.xfree86.org/~alanh/) and DRI (available at
http://dri.sourceforge.net/)?
