The BLFS book includes a host.def file which I had edited incorrectly. they had the MMX flag commented out and I had only removed the opening comment and left the closing one. However, I'm still having problems. The build runs for quite a while and then falls down again. I think this might be due to running under UML with a default memory of 32M so I'll try increasing the memory for UML and see it this helps. Thanks for the reply. Cheers, John Gay
