You can switch to another cursor theme with an X resource:

Xcursor.theme: whiteglass

will select the other theme provided in current XFree86 sources.  

I'm very interested in getting some more cursors for XFree86 4.3; I keep 
hoping we'll find someone able to do a better job than me.  I've solicited
many people without success to date...
